My First Trip to Onsite

Boarding:
I was very excited and was eagerly waiting for this day that I would remember for my whole life, since my flight is at 4.00 am I left my home at 12.00 am itself, many of my friends told it is too early. But I took my own decision and went early that really helped me a lot. I went to the airport in a cab and there I waited for some time till they show the “Now Check In “sign next to British Airways in the information screen there in the International Airport of Chennai.

As soon as the “Now Check In” glows I went into the airport, if you want your parents to come with you till the second level you need to get a entry ticket of Rs.60, I didn’t get this ticket since I thought it was not needed.

Then you need to get into the Check in area where you have two things to do. First is the scanning area where you need to scan your luggage and here they will check the weight of the luggage. As soon as they scan, they will send the baggage with a security checked label attached to you baggage then we have to move to the check in section where we need to fill the embarkation card with all our passport details and flight number and the destination details.

Here you need to mention the cabin luggage (the luggage which we will put in the cargo) as “Through Check In” if you are going through a transit (i.e. going to reach the destination via some other country or airport) else you can leave it they will give you a “Boarding Pass” as soon as you show the ticket to them.

With that Boarding pass you need to go to Immigration Counter where they will ask for your passport and they will ask some basic information regarding where you are travelling and in which visa you are travelling so on. As soon as you clear they stamp on the embarkation card and then we need to move on to security check.

In the Security check we have to remove our jackets/jerkins and then watches and all those stuffs and we they will check with Metal detector. As soon as you cleared this you need to move on to a queue form there they will take you to the Aircraft.


In the Aircraft, it will be like a normal bus with some TV in front of us and some seat belts. We need to fasten our Seat belts whenever the flight takes off or lands. After the flight took off you can have a variety of foods and you can enjoy the movies. (I watched Dus, Out of Sight, and Wedding Crashers)

Transit/Destination

After you land and get down from your flight, you have to watch for “Flight Connections” sign and move towards that if you are going to travel to some other place, else you need to go towards “Departure” sign.

In both the sections you have to give your passport and they will check for the type of visa through which you are travelling, if it is a work Permit you need to show the work permit and then they stamp the visa on the passport with the on which you reach that country. In some countries they will ask you to report to police station within a month or so and show all your documents preferably original for verification.
